First downs count plays that earn a new set of downs. This table ranks college football teams for the selected season and displays the applicable minimum qualifier where one is used.

Through games played October 29, 2026, LSU has the highest first downs in college football at 224. North Texas is second at 211 & Florida Atlantic third at 207. LSU's total is 13 downs above second place & 54 downs above the 25th-ranked team.
