Slot receptions allowed counts the catches surrendered by a defender when the receiver he was covering lined up in the slot. Because inside routes are short and thrown into softer coverage, completion rates are high against everyone, so the gap between a defender's slot targets allowed and slot receptions allowed is the more telling number -- it is a read on whether he is actually contesting the throw or merely present for it.
