What Are Left-Aligned Targets Allowed?
Left-aligned targets allowed counts how many passes were thrown at the receiver a defender was covering when that receiver lined up on the OFFENSE's left -- which is the defense's right side of the field. About a third of starting outside corners travel with a receiver rather than sticking to one side, but most do not: across 2025, of 97 defenders with at least 200 charted perimeter coverage snaps, the average share taken from his more common side was 66.7%, and 30 of the 97 topped 70%. A defender who is genuinely side-loyal will show a real gap between his left and right totals; one who travels will look similar on both. This is a volume number, so pair it with Left-Aligned Target Rate Allowed, which controls for how many left-side routes he actually defended.
