What Is Slot Target Rate?
Slot target rate is the percentage of a receiver's slot routes that ended with a pass thrown his way. Because it divides by routes rather than snaps or team pass attempts, it separates a receiver who is genuinely the read when he is inside from one who simply plays a lot of slot snaps -- volume boards reward the second, this one only rewards the first. It is the same definition used for defenders on the Cornerback+ pages, so a receiver's slot target rate and the rate a corner allows can be read against each other directly. Rates from the slot and from the perimeter are computed independently and are not shares of one whole.
