What Are Right-Aligned Targets?
Right-aligned targets count how many passes were thrown to a receiver on plays where he lined up on the offense's right -- the offense's right as the quarterback sees it, the same convention used on the coverage boards for defenders. A receiver's left and right target totals are not required to match; plenty of receivers, and especially ones who travel with a scheme rather than a boundary, show a clear lean to one side. Pair this with Right-Aligned Target Rate to separate a receiver who is heavily deployed to the right from one who is simply trusted when he gets there. Left and right are derived from the charted formation order, resolve on about 98% of WR/slot routes, and are independent of the Slot & Perimeter+ split -- neither pair of numbers sums to a receiver's full route total.
