What is 11 Personnel Rate?

11 personnel means one running back, one tight end and three receivers, and it is the base offense for most of the league. 11 personnel rate is the share of a team's charted scrimmage snaps played from that grouping. A high rate says an offense wants to spread a defense out and make it declare coverage with five eligible receivers; a low one usually means a team is built to win with an extra tight end or back on the field. Rates across the published groupings do not sum to 100%, because snaps in groupings without their own page are counted but not shown, and plays with an extra offensive lineman are excluded as a different look entirely.
